Eftertankens kranka blekhet

NEW YORK Någon som kommer ihåg John Edwards vid det här laget?! Det är lätt att vara efterklok, som hans valstrateg Joe Trippi visar här.

My mistake was not seeing more clearly then what is so obvious to me now: He could have kept his agenda [ending poverty, championing health care for every American and fighting for working people] in the forefront by staying in the race and forcing Obama and Clinton to focus on those issues because he, John Edwards, would hold the key to the convention deadlock. And maybe, just maybe, a brokered convention would have stunned the political world and led to an Edwards nomination.
If I had expressed these thoughts to the senator, it's possible that he would still be in the fight and leading Obama and Clinton on the issues.

Intressant läsning för alla valnördar. Med tanke på det jag skrev häromdagen om statistik som opium, tänk om vi skulle ha tre stycken kvarvarande kandidater istället för två som slogs om den demokratiska nomineringen att spekulera om.

P S Fast Joe Trippi ska inte vara ledsen. Det är fullt möjligt att Barack Obama ber John Edwards bli hans vicepresidentkandidat. (Jag tycker själv dock att det vore coolare om han valde Elizabeth Edwards. Ja, jag vet att kombinationen cancerpatient–Clintonanhängare–icke-politiker gör det valet rätt osannolikt. Men jag får återkomma till att spekulera om möjliga vicepresidentkandidater för såväl McCain som hans kommande kontrahent.)
