Brooklyn – Beirut

NEW YORK Uppdatering om Beirut-bilden (som jag skrev om här): tydligen var det libanesiska tidningar som först "avslöjade" vad den föreställde – och BBC och Der Spiegel skriver bättre om det än Financial Times-artikeln jag länkade till. Läs!

Fotografen Spencer Platt berättar i fem minuter i National Public Radio om hur det gick till när han tog bilden. Lyssna! Han verkar tycka som jag, att bilden bara blev ännu mer intressant av att man fick veta hela historien. Så är det verkligen. Som en frilansfotograf i Seoul skriver:
"photographers work in and deal in images, instants, and instinct".

Platt berättar mer i en intervju från en annan läsvärd text:

"I never talked to them. For all I knew, they might have lost members of their family. Noone was immune to hardship in that conflict. And I certainly didn't mean to make a political statement, as some have said. My fixer, Wafa, was of a very similar type to the people in the car, and her life had been turned upside down by the war." In the end, he says, "What I think this image partly asks us, the viewer, is to challenge our stereotypes of victims of war."

I den texten står också att en fotograf i World Press Photo-juryn känt sig övertygad om att bilden var arrangerad och inte ens ville ge priset till Platt av den anledningen. Löjligt!
